5.78

案道生曰：即以慚愧為衣也。若言佛是有為。無慚愧也。曰誓不重造，譬慚愧。還說佛常，䨱昔所短，喻纏身也。曇濟曰：以護常之言纏解常之也。

Daosheng comments: Taking shame and conscience as clothes. If one says the Buddha is conditioned, one lacks shame and conscience. Vowing not to commit it again is allegorized as shame and conscience. Returning to declare the Buddha permanent to cover his former deficiency is allegorized as wrapping the body. Tanji says: Wrapping the understanding of permanence with words that protect permanence.
