5.84

案僧亮曰：佛開常宗，而純陀廣之。說得其致，故歎也。僧宗曰：請門第六也，以火人譬結與純陀也。法瑤曰：非直善其能言，亦美其深解也。物謂亡身為法，未有其人，故結指純陀顯不遠。

Sengliang comments: The Buddha opened the principle of permanence, and Cunda expanded upon it. His preaching hit the mark, hence he praises him. Sengzong says: This is the sixth section of the inquiry section, which concludes by applying the allegory of the man in the fire to Cunda. Fayao says: Not only praising his ability to speak, but also admiring his profound understanding. People think that regarding dying for the Dharma, there has never been such a person; therefore concluding by pointing to Cunda shows that it is not distant.
