51.68

案僧亮曰：答第四舉昔旨以成難也。僧宗曰：舉第一難以答也。昔言未有多聞弟子者，欲為五比丘等，故言不入，非即是真涅槃也。寶亮曰：次答向未有多聞弟子意，我爾時為一人故，根栽應熟，所以不入涅槃。

Sengliang comments: This answers the fourth, which raised past intentions to construct the objection. / Sengzong comments: He raises the first objection to answer it. In the past, saying that He did not yet have disciples of wide learning was for the sake of the five monks and others; hence He said He would not enter, which was not itself true nirvāṇa. / Baoliang comments: Next, answering the previous intention regarding not yet having disciples of wide learning: at that time, for the sake of one person whose faculties were ripe for cultivation, He therefore did not enter nirvāṇa.
