52.16

案僧亮曰：長養菩提，由四無量也。寶亮曰：第六聚也。向雖辨發心，若不造行，則果無由得。今明外化，以與四等三心，願彼我同安。若習此慈成，登於初地。雖有四異，通為一慈，但從其始學就階級而明耳。

Sengliang states: Nurturing bodhi relies on the four immeasurables. Baoliang states: This is the sixth group. Although the arousal of the mind was just explained, if one does not perform practices, then there is no way to attain the fruit. Now, explaining outward conversion, by conferring the four equanimities and three minds, one aspires that both oneself and others be equally at peace. If one cultivates this benevolence to completion, one ascends to the first ground. Although there are four differences, they generally constitute a single benevolence; it is merely explained according to stages from the perspective of a beginner's practice.
