53.42

案僧亮曰：一主浣衣者，知垢淨故，應教不淨觀也。一金師子者，知風火之氣，應教數息也。寶亮曰：真善友者，唯諸佛也。今命篇舉菩薩者，以具上三心，能近善友，復能為人作善友也。未具足故，乃引事為證。

Sengliang states: One is a washerman: because he knows defilement and purity, one should teach him the contemplation of impurity. One is a goldsmith: because he knows the airs of wind and fire, one should teach him the counting of breaths. Baoliang states: The true good friends are only the Buddhas. Now the text names and cites bodhisattvas because, endowed with the above three minds, they are able to draw close to good friends and can further act as good friends to others. Because [the disciples] were not yet fully endowed, he cites affairs as verification.
