Daosheng states: Turning away from the path and being non-genuine is called an ordinary person; because they are ordinary persons, they are inferior. Sengliang states: By their sinking down, drifting with the current, they are inferior. Sengzong states: Since it is called an erroneous conception, how can it be called good? Here, taking it as a contributory cause is because it suppresses afflictions, cultivates the six practices, and gathers the mind into the path of dhyāna. Although this is not the superior path, it necessarily contains the sense of goodness, so it cannot but be included. Baoliang states: Ordinary persons consistently dwell in suffering and have only the direct cause.
