54.139

案僧亮曰：道偏則不能破病，不偏者則能破病，以破病故名之為中也。僧宗曰：此境生智，智能破故，所以稱為破也。寶亮曰：若能觀十二因緣生稱理之解，必能破生死也。

Sengliang states: If the path is one-sided, it cannot destroy illness; if it is not one-sided, it can destroy illness; because it destroys illness, it is called middle. Sengzong states: This cognitive object generates wisdom, and wisdom can destroy; therefore it is said to destroy. Baoliang states: If one can contemplate the twelve links of dependent origination and generate an understanding that accords with principle, one will surely be able to destroy saṃsāra.
