案僧亮曰：證唯佛能見也。僧宗曰：始無源而照，正以始於無始。如《淨名》言「從癡有愛」，豈知始乎？《勝鬘》亦云「無始無明」也。

Sengliang comments: This proves that only the Buddha is able to see. Sengzong comments: The beginning is illuminated without a source precisely because it begins from the beginningless. As the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa says, 'From ignorance there is craving'—how could one know its beginning? The Śrīmālādevī also speaks of 'beginningless avidyā'.
