55.72

案僧亮曰：亦因者，聽法是信心之因也。因因者，信心復是聽法之因也。今與因為因，名為因因。亦果者，信心聽法之果也。亦果果者，聽法是信心果也。與果互得相生，皆是因是果，故名有為。

Sengliang comments: "Both a cause": listening to the Dharma is the cause of faith. "A cause of a cause": faith is further the cause of listening to the Dharma. Now, acting as a cause for a cause is called a cause of a cause. "Both a fruit": faith is the fruit of listening to the Dharma. "A fruit of a fruit": listening to the Dharma is the fruit of faith. Mutually generating each other with the fruit, both are cause and fruit; hence they are called saṃskṛta.
