案僧亮曰：舉闇中之物雖是本有，不了不見，以證了因之用，不得言已有不須了也。寶亮曰：舉現事以救義也。

Sengliang comments: He adduces the object in the darkness which, although originally existing, is not seen without being illuminated, to prove the function of an illuminating cause; one cannot say that because it already exists, it does not need illumination. Baoliang comments: He adduces an observable phenomenon to rescue his doctrine.
