56.54

案僧亮曰：要須智性者，知數自他色，非自數也。寶亮曰：佛答意謂數者是神慮故，能數我色他色。所以言汝執了因者，本是色法，云何兩用耶？

Sengliang comments: It requires the nature of consciousness to know the counting of one's own and others' forms; form does not count itself. Baoliang comments: The Buddha's intention in answering is that counting is mental deliberation, and therefore can count one's own form and others' forms. Hence he says: What you cling to as the illuminating cause is fundamentally a material phenomenon; how could it have both functions?
