57.50

案僧亮曰：張兩關難也。稱上六心，言皆念念生滅，不能除結也。第二關云：若相似者，下則常下，亦無修力也。寶亮曰：問有兩意，一意，若念念滅者，體不自固，則無增長；二意，若從下生中、從中生上，則非相似相續。

Sengliang remarks: "He sets up a two-pronged objection. Referring to the six minds mentioned above, he says they all arise and perish moment by moment, so they cannot eradicate the fetters. In the second prong, he says: 'If they are similar, the inferior would always remain inferior, and likewise there would be no power of cultivation.'" Baoliang says: "The question has two senses. The first sense: if they perish moment by moment, their substantial entity is not self-stabilized, so there is no growth. The second sense: if the medium arises from the inferior, and the superior arises from the medium, then they are not a similar continuity."
