58.4

案僧亮曰：眾生有待處漏盡。此下將辨處為道，故發問也。寶亮曰：修道之第四，文人寄處所以明道也。大意有五因緣：第一為益人曠遠；第二欲報地往恩；第三為欲還此中正受；第四為果彼本願；第五為逐外道也。

Sengliang remarks: "Sentient beings depend upon a place for outflows to be exhausted. From here down, he is about to explain the place for the sake of the path; hence he raises the question." Baoliang says: "The fourth part of cultivating the path: the text anchors it to places to clarify the path. The general idea has five causes and conditions: first, to benefit people extensively; second, to repay the past kindness of the place; third, to return to this place for correct reception; fourth, to fulfill his past vow; fifth, to pursue the non-Buddhists."
