59.16

案僧亮曰：然色等以因緣故，具有四過。我所以說我相同虛空，不以因緣成遍一切處，難以分數分也。湛然常住，不可生滅，而能知能見，常御諸情也。

Sengliang comments: "However, matter and the like, by virtue of causes and conditions, fully possess the four faults. My explanation of the mark of the self is that it is identical to empty space: it does not, by causes and conditions, come to pervade all places, and it is difficult to divide into fractions. Clear and calm, permanently abiding, it cannot be produced or extinguished, yet it is capable of knowing and seeing, constantly governing the various sense-faculties."
