59.4

案。僧亮曰。師子吼能令眠者覺悟也。佛說中道。能悟偏執之眠也。寶亮曰。外道既窮於此處。故求欲論義也。

Sengliang comments: "The Lion's Roar is capable of awakening those who slumber. The Buddha's exposition of the Middle Way is able to awaken them from the slumber of one-sided attachments." Baoliang comments: "Since the non-Buddhists were brought to exhaustion at this point, they sought to debate the doctrines."
