60.46

案僧亮曰：此明地勝報，不可盡業障也。僧宗曰：施畜生者，舉偏教為難也。施闡提者，取其人類也。下極畜生、上窮諸佛，善惡同然，其報無盡，都不明轉義，是以牽此為難。依如昔教，世尊受純陀之供，則獲報無量，何有見佛性成佛時耶？

Sengliang states: This clarifies that the retribution from an eminent field [of merit] cannot be exhausted, which is an obstacle of karma. Sengzong states: Giving to beasts is raising the partial teaching to formulate an objection. Giving to an icchantika takes their human category. Reaching down to beasts and up to all Buddhas, good and evil are alike in that their retributions are inexhaustible; none of this clarifies the principle of transformation, which is why this is drawn upon to formulate an objection. According to the past teaching, when the World-Honoured One received Cunda's offering, [Cunda] obtained measureless retribution; when would there ever be a time to see the buddhadhātu and attain Buddhahood?
