案僧亮曰：終用一方便力耳。上明雖復先後，而慈用實等。今明三時方便，常盡其力也。寶亮曰：答第三難也。明佛非無大方便，但於善星方便不顯耳。如彼師子於二狩之間，雖等其力，菟則不設也。

Sengliang comments: In the end, [the Buddha] simply uses the power of a single upāya. Above, it explained that although there are earlier and later [times], the application of compassion is truly equal. Here, it explains that the upāya across the three periods of time constantly exerts its full power. Baoliang comments: This answers the third objection. It clarifies that it is not that the Buddha lacks great upāya, but merely that the upāya does not become manifest in the case of Sunakkhatta. Just as the lion between the two beasts [of the chase] exerts equal strength, yet in the case of the hare does not display it.
