案僧亮曰：上說現在無有信慧名斷善根，未明五根及未來善，故發問也。僧宗曰：此下第三明斷二世善也。智秀曰：此下第二段顯斷善根義也。六翻明義，此第一，求斷善根之相。

Sengliang comments: Above, it was said that having neither faith nor wisdom in the present is called severing good roots, but the five faculties and future good were not yet clarified; hence the question is raised. Sengzong comments: From here below is the third [part], clarifying the severing of good across two lifetimes. Zhixiu comments: From here below is the second section, revealing the meaning of severing good roots. Six rounds clarify the doctrine; this is the first, seeking the characteristics of severing good roots.
