案僧亮曰：說有二種，謂法說、義說也。法說總而略，義說別而廣，故云分別答也。

Sengliang states: "There are two modes of exposition: exposition of phenomena and exposition of meaning. Exposition of phenomena is comprehensive and brief, while exposition of meaning is distinct and extensive; therefore it is called answering by distinguishing."
