66.68

案僧亮曰：上未說因體，今更問也。僧宗曰：更問出體相，令人識也。寶亮曰：上解佛果非三世，其義乃了。但果名濫於生死，迦葉致問，顯此旨也。智秀曰：上雖明性，從於因果三世攝不攝義，未出其體，今發問以顯之也。

Sengliang notes: "Above, the essence of the cause was not yet explained; now he inquires about it again." Sengzong says: "He further inquires to reveal the essence and characteristics, so as to make people recognise them." Baoliang says: "Above, the explanation that the Buddha-fruit is not of the three times was quite clear in meaning. However, the name 'fruit' is easily confused with [fruits of] saṃsāra, so Kāśyapa raises this question to illuminate this point." Zhixiu says: "Although he explained above the nature in terms of whether it is subsumed or not subsumed by the three times of cause and effect, he did not reveal its essence. Now this question is raised to illuminate it."
