Sengliang comments: What constantly arises are the view of self and doubt. What is difficult to recognize is difficult to sever. The cause of afflictions is the view of self. The antidotes to the enemy-thieves are morality, concentration, and wisdom. Expediently speaking of three explains why only the heavy ones are mentioned. Seng宗 comments: The view of self is the root of all defilements and obscures the category of wisdom. Attachment to rules and rituals runs contrary to the noble path and obscures the category of morality. Doubt universally obscures, rendering nothing successful. These three are heavy for this reason; if distinguished, they are limitless. Baoliang comments: Because these three heavy ones are eliminated, forty leagues of water will naturally dry up as well.
