案僧宗曰：離謂多方便也。如以一渧頗求樹汁即便成酪。而生蘇亦爾，要假五緣。當知生法不同也。亦應離方便者，亦應離多方便也。智秀曰：猶第一復次中一事，助成難也。

Sengzong comments: 'Apart from' refers to multiple skillful means. For instance, with a single drop of sap from the *phāṇita* tree, it immediately becomes curd. Fresh butter is also like this, necessarily depending on five conditions. One should know that the modes of production differ. 'Should likewise be apart from skillful means' means it should likewise be apart from multiple skillful means. Zhixiu says: This is still one matter within the first subsequent argument, helping to complete the challenge.
