Sengliang comments: 'Speaking as one intends' means suffering is not as one intends, while bliss is as one intends. Sentient beings detest suffering and wish to seek what is as they intend; the Buddha speaks the seven in response to faculties, causing all to attain it. All seven modes of speech are for what is as one intends, but the seventh distinctively receives this name. If he speaks the seven in response to faculties, speech cannot be fixed. 'Speech that should not be spoken' means the Dharma lacks this principle; he speaks what should not be spoken wishing to make sentient beings turn from evil and cultivate good. Sengzong says: The fifth section dispels attachment. It means sometimes within the cause he speaks of the effect, and sometimes within the effect he speaks of the cause; how could one rely on these words to generate attachment? 'Cause-and-effect speech' means arising from past karma and also being able to create future effects. Baoliang says: The text explains itself; these are all words encouraging students.
