Sengliang states: Giving and precepts are dharmas for emerging from birth-and-death, so they are called 'emerging'; the sūtra compares them to food. Because of [clinging to] existence, one is submerged in birth-and-death, so it is called 'submerged'; the sūtra compares it to poison, calling it food mixed with poison. Furthermore, generating faith is 'emerging', while ultimately severing the roots of goodness is 'submerging'. For this reason, Sunakkhatta, who appears later, is the second person. The first person has thick and heavy afflictions and will certainly enter severe suffering; hence it is said that 'the body is heavy and the location is deep'. Although the second person also gives rise to slander, in the future he will certainly nourish himself with goodness; hence it is said that 'the body is heavy and the location is shallow'. Baoliang states: The following explains in sequence the meaning of the incompleteness of the aforementioned five things.
