68.90

案僧亮曰：互為因果者，非女取女，名無明也。分別好惡，名不善也。取好惡已，更增女相，如是九品互為因果也。「子是近因」訖「煩惱亦爾」者，雖互相生，而女相是遠、好惡相是近也。

Sengliang comments: As for 'mutually being cause and effect', apprehending female characteristics where there is no woman is called ignorance. Distinguishing good and bad is called unwholesomeness. Having apprehended good and bad, female characteristics increase further; in this way, the nine grades mutually serve as causes and effects. From 'the seed is the proximate cause' up to 'afflictions are also like this', although they mutually generate one another, the characteristic of a woman is remote, and the characteristic of good and bad is proximate.
