Sengliang comments: 'Without perceptions like this': conventional truth distinguishes dharmas, which is called perception. What is universally transmitted in the world is called popular circulation. Conventional truth has two kinds: first, the principle; second, inversion. Conditioning broad conventional designations is the principle; calculating oneness and difference is inversion, and inversion gives rise to attachment. Baoliang comments: Although he speaks of the cessation of both perception and feeling, this generally illuminates the cessation of all dharmas. Because perception arises due to contact, he next contemplates contact as having two kinds: due to the consciousness of ignorance, one gives rise to the afflictions of perception and feeling; due to clear consciousness, one severs afflictions and attains liberation. Contact originally lodges within the various gateways, so it is not contemplated separately.
