7.116

案道生曰：已受五戒十善之化，此欲為說無常教也。僧亮曰：五人觀空得道，一切眾生皆知身內無我，宣令一國之義也。信正背耶，理不為難嚮，然從命為蓋不足言也。夫萬善以信根為首，若以倒見為藥，則無信根，為斷首之義也。

Daosheng comments: Having already received the transformation of the five precepts and ten good deeds, he now wished to expound the teaching of impermanence for them. Sengliang says: When the five people contemplated emptiness and attained the Way, all sentient beings came to know that there is no self within the body; this is the meaning of issuing an order throughout the entire country. Having faith in the correct and turning away from deviance is not difficult in principle; their unhesitating obedience to the order was indeed beyond words. Now, among the myriad good deeds, the faculty of faith is the foremost; if one takes inverted views as medicine, one lacks the faculty of faith, which is the meaning of having one's head cut off.
