Daosheng comments: Permanence ought to be expounded. Sengliang says: Since regarding non-self was an inversion, the eight sovereign powers should be used as a remedy; hence it says 'milk should be taken'. As for 'this is a great lie': the purpose of non-self lay in saṃsāra, but saying 'all' is a lie. Inverted afflictions are able to burn sentient beings, taking the metaphor of suffering from heat. Fayao says: Originally, the fire of impermanence was used to burn saṃsāra, but indiscriminately applying it to the Buddha-ground was a graver illness; hence it is said, 'suffers from heat'. Sengzong says: The inverted mind of impermanence is hollow and unreal, and because it arises from error, it should be called hollow heat. The understanding of true permanence is cool, pure, and real; hence it is said, 'milk should be taken'.
