案道生曰：讀誦諸經，已養法身。若專在去結，譬處高源。若從斯起惑，譬處下濕。僧亮曰：慢心高原、染心如下濕，弘通之病莫過此也。法瑤曰：執我在三界，為下濕。執無我濫佛地，為高原。縱容中道，離此患也。

Daosheng comments: "Reciting the sūtras nourishes the dharmakāya. If one exclusively concentrates on eliminating defilements, this is symbolized by being on a high plateau. If from this confusion arises, this is symbolized by being in low wetlands." Sengliang comments: "An arrogant mind is a high plateau; a mind of defilement is like low wetlands. No fault in propagating the teaching exceeds these." Fayao comments: "Clinging to the self in the three realms is low wetlands. Clinging to non-self and conflating it with the Buddha-stage is a high plateau. Walking with ease in the Middle Way leaves these faults behind."
