7.14

案道生曰：更脩既非，前脩示非，故今始得非之，云其脩非也，亦以脩無實義也。僧亮曰：謂知字知義，為勝脩也。法瑤曰：佛今始判昔解為非，故無有實義；今解為是，說勝三脩也。僧宗曰：下先結八倒與比丘，然後說勝脩也。智秀曰：此下第四章。

Daosheng states: Since cultivation anew is wrong, and previous cultivation was shown to be wrong, therefore only now can he refute it, saying their cultivation is wrong, and also that cultivation lacks real meaning. Sengliang states: Knowing the words and knowing the meaning is considered superior cultivation. Fayao states: Only now does the Buddha determine the past understanding to be wrong, so it lacks real meaning; the present understanding is right, and he explains the superior threefold cultivation. Sengzong states: Below, he first concludes the eight inversions with the bhikṣus, and afterwards explains superior cultivation. Zhixiu states: From here below is the fourth chapter.
