案僧亮曰：陳如五人，應聞者也。僧宗曰：應是住前凡夫人。寶亮曰：通譬三乘人也。

Sengliang states: The five people including Kaundinya, those who were meant to hear it. Sengzong states: These should be ordinary beings before the stages of abiding. Baoliang states: Broadly a parable for the persons of the three vehicles.
