案僧亮曰：答第三也。若名義有因，實亦有因也。寶亮曰：答第二也。明竹木初生，本無箭鎙之性，工匠乃成，豈非因緣耶？

Sengliang remarks: This answers the third. If name and meaning have causes, the actual entity also has causes. Baoliang remarks: This answers the second. It clarifies that when bamboo and wood first sprout, they originally lack the nature of arrows and lance-shafts; only through the artisan are they completed—how could this not be due to causes and conditions?"
