71.66

案僧亮曰：魔欲使佛法無所付囑，滅不流傳，故惱亂阿難也。寶亮曰：所以是表阿難之德，雖不在坐而能受持。

Sengliang comments: Māra wished to cause the Buddha's Dharma to have no one to whom it was entrusted, so that it would be extinguished and not transmitted; therefore he troubled Ānanda. Baoliang comments: This shows Ānanda's virtue, that although he was not seated there, he was able to accept and uphold it.
