8.40

案僧宗曰：此下有九問，廣門也。上略門中明般若法身，今廣門中明解脫也。三德既顯，伊字始圓也。開微密者，廣說如來二種隱䨱，一謂言隱䨱、二謂形隱䨱，以昔教未著為微也，詮常為密也。寶亮曰。此下廣門，凡十六問，此一問正廣果用。果者，謂法身般若解脫也。智秀曰：此第六問弘通之法也，下有十問皆相承而發。

Sengzong states: Below this are nine questions, which form the expanded section. In the preceding concise section, prajñā and the dharmakāya were clarified; now, in this expanded section, vimokṣa is clarified. Once the three virtues are revealed, the letter 'I' is complete. 'Revealing the subtle and esoteric' means extensively expounding the Tathāgata's two kinds of concealment: first, concealment of speech, and second, concealment of physical form. Because former teachings were not yet manifest, it is called 'subtle'; because it expounds permanence, it is called 'esoteric.' Baoliang states: The expanded section below contains sixteen questions in total; this single question specifically expands upon the fruition-function. 'Fruition' refers to the dharmakāya, prajñā, and vimokṣa. Zhixiu states: This is the sixth question, concerning the method of dissemination; the ten questions that follow are all raised in sequence with it.
