8.64

案僧宗曰：向通因果，今偏語因。患重故難拔，菩薩拔之。前止言不污，今明治惑，如醫王譬也。智秀曰：第十九問經力，能滅煩惱障也。

Sengzong states: Previously it applied to both cause and fruition; now it specifically speaks of the cause. Because the afflictions are severe, they are difficult to uproot, yet the bodhisattva uproots them. Previously it only spoke of not being defiled; now it clarifies the curing of delusions, as in the simile of the king of physicians. Zhixiu states: The nineteenth question concerns the power of the sūtra to eradicate affliction obstacles.
