8.94

案僧宗曰：始則治罪，終為菩薩德力轉高，隣於極境，皆由經力。此中並指今教能開發圓解，物無餘疑，經益顯矣。寶亮曰：此明五人從四時學，來至今經，教於因果中生信，得近無上道也。曇纖曰：下文「爾時大眾，以種種物供養如來已，即發無上道心，無量菩薩得住初地。」即是近無上道。答此問。

Sengzong states: Beginning with curing offenses and ending with the bodhisattva's power of virtue growing ever higher, bordering on the ultimate realm, all is due to the power of the sūtra. Here it collectively points to the present teaching's ability to uncover complete understanding, leaving beings with no remaining doubts; the benefit of the sūtra is thus made manifest. Baoliang states: This explains that five kinds of people, learning from the four periods, come to the present sūtra, are taught to give rise to faith in cause and effect, and are able to approach the unsurpassed path. Tanxian states: The text below says: "At that time, after the great assembly made offerings of various articles to the Tathāgata, they immediately gave rise to the mind directed toward the unsurpassed path, and immeasurable bodhisattvas attained the first stage." This is approaching the unsurpassed path. It answers this question.
