案僧宗曰：若語其事，但八十年也。而云諸常法中最第一者，不應無旨，是故問言云何常也。智秀曰：此下答第二長壽果問也。答問不同，或須重稱問以求答、或直爾而問、或因答前餘勢仍為答者。此答中有三別：第一正答長壽義、第二設難、第三改正三歸。從此訖「壽命第一」，正答問也。有兩意：初迦葉問、後佛答也。

Sengzong comments: If speaking of the matter, it was only eighty years. Yet saying it is the very foremost among all permanent dharmas cannot be without purpose; therefore, he asks how it is permanent. Zhixiu comments: From here below answers the second question regarding the fruit of long life. Answering questions is not uniform: sometimes one must restate the question to seek an answer; sometimes one asks directly; sometimes one proceeds from the momentum of the preceding answer to provide an answer. In this answer there are three distinctions: first, properly answering the meaning of long life; second, setting up an objection; third, correcting the three refuges. From here up to ‘lifespan is foremost’ properly answers the question. There are two meanings: first, Kāśyapa asks; second, the Buddha answers.
