Sengliang states: This corroborates anew the purport of non-destruction. Sengzong states: This refers to Śākyamuni. It means that after the previous Buddha passed into extinction, he who acquired it by the proper method obtained it. But sentient beings of meagre merit seek it by contrary arts: it is simply a matter of adhering or not adhering [to the way]; this principle is ever so. Baoliang states: When a subsequent Buddha appears in the world, he straightway obtains such understanding of the Middle Way.
