Sengliang comments: In the past, when the Buddha first attained the Way, observing that the world was difficult to transform, he wished to enter nirvāṇa; thereupon the Brahmā King requested him to turn the wheel of the Dharma. Now you have requested the Buddha and succeeded in having your offering accepted, which is identical to that Brahmā. The Brahmā King belongs to the seventh heaven, meaning to transcend the sixth heaven. Sengzong says: This is the fourth of the five sections: requesting Cunda to ask the Buddha. Mingjun comments: These four lines of verse each have a distinct purpose. The first line, being about to request Cunda, first praises him as possessing the virtue of the Brahmā King; the next line requests Cunda to ask the Buddha; the next line clarifies the reason why the Buddha should be requested; the next line reiterates the utmost sincerity of making the request.
