Sengliang comments: Although amidst impermanence, she was able not to produce deviant views. If there were someone who slandered the Dharma, she would risk her life to save it. Fayao says: One who protects the Dharma must dwell in an evil world and a place of many perils, and will certainly be envied. Yet being able, though swept away by the current, to hold fast to understanding without letting go, even to the point of losing one's life, consequently causes the understanding of permanence not to circulate in the world. Person and Dharma both falling, it is said in meaning that mother and child were both submerged. Sengzong says: The sharp edge of falsehood forcefully obstructed upright speech, thereby silencing speech at the time. When understanding is not unfolded, the meaning is like the child sinking; when the person is humiliated and broken, the meaning is like the mother sinking.
