Daosheng comments: The wrong mind is dark within, allegorized as being asleep. Sengliang says: Borne by delusion to receive retribution, not what was originally expected, is called 'lodging.' Having drifted for a long time, one ultimately loses the understanding of permanence and declares the Buddha to be impermanent, allegorized as being asleep. Tanji says: Saṃsāra cannot be dwelt in for long, hence 'lodging.' Zhixiu says: Although having slight understanding, delusion obstructs the eye of wisdom, temporarily forgetting what one harbored, like being in a dim sleep.
