Sengliang comments: The Nirvāṇa Sūtra describes the nature in this way; if one does not read it, one will not see it. Sengzong comments: The eighth again resorts to an analogy to reveal the principle of being neither internal nor external. Because it is covered by defilements, it is not internal; because it is seen when delusions are exhausted, it is not external. Baoliang comments: The third turn eliminates attachments. All who wish to study should not attach to literal sounds. If one hears that form is the buddhadhātu, one must not say that only form is and mind is not; if one again hears that the four aggregates are the buddhadhātu, one must not say that only mind is and form is not. But the sage expounds the Dharma according to the times and following what beings need; how could one cling fixedly?
