Sengliang comments: "Above it was said that nirvāṇa is free from production and free from all existences, and that the Tathāgata is identical to nirvāṇa. Yet speaking of birth in the royal palace and extinction at the Twin Trees means taking emerging into activity as birth and entering tranquility as extinction—these are the traces responding to beings. For what reason? Entering the cave of meditative concentration intends to reveal the purport of manifesting extinction to benefit that time, which is why the question is raised." Baoliang comments: "This encourages practicing the concentration entered by the Buddha, in order to transform sentient beings to attain signless nirvāṇa."
