Sengliang comments: This is the fourth parable. 'Now is precisely the time' refers to the time when the five people were to awaken. 'Cherish me' means responding to the principle in hidden accord, so that there is no error. 'I would ask for one wish': delusion arises from signs, and when emptiness is contemplated, it is extinguished. The principle of emptiness is non-dual; hence it is called 'one'. Fayao says: The Buddha's sole wish is transformation. But the fulfillment of transformation depends on sentient beings, so it is figuratively said that he 'asks'. Tanji says: 'One wish' symbolizes the one gate of emptiness. Sengzong says: The fourth parable. The time arrived to expound the four truths and eradicate the deviant self. As for the 'one wish', regarding what the World-Honoured One ought to expound—the permanent and the impermanent, the great and the small—at this time he could not yet expound both together, so it is called 'one'. At that time, he was precisely in the three seven-day periods of contemplation, knowing that sentient beings possessed the principle of following transformation, so the wish could be fulfilled.
