Below "the Tathāgata," it applies [the simile], applying it in accordance with the sequence of the three preceding sections. In applying the first section, "the Tathāgata is also like this" applies to the warrior above. "Subdues afflictions," etc., applies to the strength matching a thousand, with none able to subdue him. Subduing the māra of afflictions cuts off the causes of birth and death; subduing the heavenly māra crushes the conditions for birth and death; subduing the [māras of the] aggregates and death departs from the fruits of birth and death. Because he subdues these four, he is not conditioned. "Therefore, the Tathāgata is called the Honored One of the Three Realms" applies to the second section's being beloved of the king and singularly bestowed official rank and emolument. From "like that..." downward adduces the simile to correspond, particularly corresponding to the first section. Below "due to these causes and conditions," it applies the third section. "Due to these causes and conditions" takes up what precedes to reveal what follows: by means of the causes and conditions of the Buddha's destroying the conditioned, he accomplishes various unconditioned virtues. "Accomplishing various immeasurable true virtues" applies to the various skills surpassing a thousand above. "Therefore he is called the Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksaṃbuddha" applies to the aforementioned simile of being called matching a thousand. "Mañjuśrī should not conceptualize the Tathāgata as identical to conditioned phenomena" sums up the admonition in conclusion.
