Below, the eighth section refutes taking the place where a finger abides to be space. It is largely similar to the earlier second [section where] the place where objects abide is called space, but because the method of refutation differs, it must be discussed again. 'If someone says that the place where a finger abides is called space' cites the opponent's position. From 'One should know...' downward, it challenges it to be impermanent. From 'Why is this?' downward, it explains. In this, it first clarifies that because the place where a finger abides is called space, it has direction following the finger. From 'All permanent...' downward, it clarifies that having a spatial location necessarily implies impermanence. In this, it first clarifies that permanent dharmas have no direction. From 'Because it has direction' downward, it clarifies that because it has direction, it is necessarily impermanent. From 'If it is impermanent' downward, it clarifies that if it is impermanent, it is not apart from the five aggregates. From 'It must be apart...' downward, it clarifies that it is not the five aggregates, and is non-existent, not existent.
