2.102

上來第一拂去昔日不慈之迹，下拂現在不等之迹。迦葉先問「如佛所言則不等視如羅睺羅」，執言徵行，執前如來治罰之言徵無等行。「若有一人以刀害」下執行徵言，若治毀禁，是言則失。結以顯過，等言失也。

The preceding was the first [part], dispelling the trace of past lack of compassion; below it dispels the trace of present lack of impartiality. Kāśyapa first asks, "If it is as the Buddha said, then there is no impartial viewing as toward Rāhula": clinging to words to examine deeds, he clings to the Tathāgata's previous statement on punishment to challenge the absence of impartial practice. From "If there were a person who used a blade to harm..." downward, he clings to deeds to examine words: if one punishes those who violate prohibitions, this statement is violated. He concludes by showing the error: the statement of impartiality has failed.
