2.129

上來第一教示真歸，自下迦葉領解修行。於中有三：一以真歸，上開父母，乃至七世、無始皆開，但隨世俗且言七世。又七世來愛習未捨，可以攝化，故說開之。七世父母隨生何道，迦葉皆往而為開化，如佛昇天為母說法。二「我今」下，中益己身；三「既自」下，下利眾生，有信眾生直為廣說，無信眾生懼伏令學。

Above, the first [part] taught and showed true refuge; from here on, Kāśyapa comprehends and practices it. Within this there are three parts: first, by means of true refuge, he initiates his parents above, up to seven generations, and even from beginningless time all are initiated, yet following worldly convention he just speaks of seven generations. Furthermore, because the habit of attachment from seven generations has not been abandoned, they can be gathered and transformed, and therefore he speaks of initiating them. Into whatever realm the parents of seven generations may have been born according to karma, Kāśyapa goes to all of them to initiate and transform them, just as the Buddha ascended to the heavens to teach the Dharma for his mother. Second, from "I now..." onwards, medially benefits his own person. Third, from "Having myself..." onwards, benefits sentient beings below: to faithful sentient beings he directly expounds it at length, while he frightens and subdues faithless sentient beings to cause them to study.
