自下第二明斷肉意，迦葉先問云何不聽；下佛答之，「斷大慈種」，是以不聽。地上大慈，地前名種。

From here, the second [section] explains the intention behind prohibiting meat. Kāśyapa first asks why it is not permitted; below, the Buddha answers him: 'It severs the seed of great compassion,' and for this reason it is not permitted. On the [bodhisattva] grounds it is great compassion; before the grounds it is called the seed.
