In cutting off the fetters of others, first it clarifies that innumerable sentient beings are like iron, cooling and then becoming hot again. From 'I, by means of wisdom...' onward, it clarifies that he himself is able to extinguish them, just as fire burns wood so that it permanently does not arise again. The above is the first question and answer broadly clarifying the permanence of the Tathāgata's body. From 'excellent!' onward is the second part, receiving with understanding. From 'the Buddha said...' onward is the third part, confirming and approving. Therein, first is the metaphor: 'holy king' illustrates the Buddha; 'regularly in the inner palace' illustrates being in Jambudvīpa; 'at times wandering and observing in the rear garden' illustrates the Buddha resting his conversion work and entering great nirvāṇa; 'although the king is not among the maidens' illustrates that the Buddha is not among the transformations of sentient beings; 'nor can it be said that the holy king has reached the end of his life' illustrates that the Buddha permanently exists. Next, it matches [the metaphor] to reveal the Dharma: 'the Tathāgata is likewise thus' matches the previous holy king regularly being in the inner palace; 'although not appearing in the realm of Jambudvīpa' skips ahead to match not being among the maidens; 'entering nirvāṇa' matches wandering in the rear garden; 'is not called impermanent' matches not reaching the end of life. Below, it manifests this again: 'emerging from innumerable afflictions' clarifies what he has left behind; 'entering nirvāṇa,' etc., reveals what he has attained. Therein, first it clarifies the attainment of the bliss of nirvāṇa; from 'roaming in the various awakenings...' onward, he attains the bliss of bodhi.
